I was thinking about getting guild wars, and since Factions was comming out soon I was thinking about just waiting for that. The way I understand this from the main site.

"Everything you need to explore the new regions and societies of Cantha is already in the box. No need to purchase the original Prophecies campaign to play the Factions campaign."

Is if I buy Factions, I'll be able to play the original game as well? Or does it mean I still have to buy the first game to play it, and you simply don't NEED the first game to play Factions?

Thanks!

I'm pretty sure it goes like this:

Buy Factions; don't get Prophecies..

Correct, the Factions Campaign is a seperate standalone campaign, just like our factions campaign is greyed out (in the char creation window), your prophicies campaign will be greyed out. You do not need the core GW set to play factions, as Factions is its own set in and of itself. (This information is also in the guildwars press release here.)

also, if you're planning on pvping on a not-so-casual level, you might want to purchase both games, as factions (GW2) will only include a "core-set" of prophecies (GW1) skills. So apart from not being able to access the prophecies pve areas, you also won't be able to use every skill that is in the game ...

Ok, thanks for the replies! I'll probably pick up Prophecies soon, and get Factions some time after it comes out. (If I decided to get it that is)
